Charleston, S.C. YORKTOWN

Hank and I headed for Patriots Point, a Naval and Maritime Museum. We boarded the Yorktown Aircraft Carrier, the Laffey destroyer, and the Ingham Coast Guard Cutter. What made it really special this weekend, there were Naval servicemen to show you around the ship in their uniforms, very cool!

On board the Yorktown, they had a museum about other Aircraft Carriers, the USS Block Island (Pappys' ship) was honored.
Over the Memorial Weekend, remember Dad, his Aircraft carrier was the only one that sunk in the Atlantic Ocean during WWII.

Have a great Holiday weekend.

Charleston, South Carolina

We have been so lucky on the weather. It has just been beautiful. We arrived at a very nice campsite, and lo and behold some friends we met in Savannah, from California are here. We are adjusting very nicely to our new home. The pups and kitty seem to be adapting to the lazy life too!

Today we took a 1hour boat ride out to Fort Sumter. For you history buffs, this is where the Civil War actually started...very cool.
The place is still standing in the middle of the water built by slaves who put granite down then built the fort over it.

Tomorrow we are thinking about investigating the ships in the Harbor, an Aircraft Carrier, a Destroyer and cutter. Until tomorrow. Love and miss you guys!

Dinner with the McNairs, Hilton Head

We had a wonderful evening with my brother David and family. Trey and Laura had exams this week, but Trey took time out to show me how to operate Paper Mario, a new Wii game. Laura informed me of the sad news of her horses' injured leg but the positive side is she hopes to work with her trainer riding other horses this summer until her horse gets better. Pepi made a wonderful dinner and was a great hostess as usual. After dinner, Hank and I walked down to the dock, looked out over the water, and watched the sunset. What a loving evening with the McNairs...Thank you!

Fort Pulaski, Tybee Island, Georgia

This was an awesome place to visit. During the civil war, the Confederates held this fort until the Union soldiers finally knocked down a wall and the Confederates surrendered. The tour was great given by a National Park Ranger, and they shot a cannon off in the square. The history was amazing and to be standing there surrounded by fallen soldiers' graves from the Civil War was sad. All the prisioners used as human shields, and the jails inside the walls, such History.

Tomorrow we head up to Hilton Head Island, S.C. Hank will be very happy to have all his communications back. He has felt lost without email, telephone and satelite. We have been "Lost in Space." Until then....bye
