Hollywood's vision of the wild west. These were the sets of old movies like The Outlaw Josey Wales, One Little Indian, and Black Bart.

Mossy Cave & Nature Hike
Hank and I went down Scenic By-Pass 12 to see the Mossy Cave, we encountered a Volunteer Ranger that was taking people on a walk and ask us to join them. He described all the edible plants, just in case we got hungry. He also explained the way to get fluids out of certain leaves. We found a waterfall in the desert and water seeping from rocks in a cave with moss all on the roof. It was very educational and we had a nice morning.

Red Canyon-Horse back riding
Hank and I got up early and headed to Ruby's Inn. We caught a van with 4 other people, 2 French, and 2 from the Netherlands-Holland-Denise and Mom (Tina). They rode in front of me! Tina struggled to keep her horse from eating and Denise kept wanting hers to trot. While I had no problem at all...Puff (Lillie's horse) lagged behind and held Hank and the guide up then all of a sudden would start trotting to catch up with Tina...hence King, (Hanks horse) would trot too!! He kept moaning behind me each time this happened. We rode through washes throughout the canyon with towering red rocks above us. As you can tell, all Hank could see of me was my back and the dust I left behind as we took off. Someone isn't going to be able to walk tomorrow after 3hrs. on Horses. Great Adventure!!

Bryce Canyon N.P. The Hoodoo
The beautiful striking scenery that makes Bryce unique, has been created by the forces of nature sculpting the brilliantly colored Claron Formation. Most of it done by erosion. We followed the rim all the way around these beautiful formation.
Tomorrow we are going down to the bottom by Horse-back. Ut-oh!!

Drive from Zion to Bryce Canyon
Hank and I decided to take the Mountain Hwy. 14 over from Zion to Bryce. It was absolutely gorgeous. We climbed over 9,000', temperatures started dropping. What views!! At the top of the summit, there were sheep everywhere, including all over the road.

Jeep Experience
Hank and I had been hiking all day, we couldn't walk anymore. We were on our drive home through a little town called Springdale when all of a sudden boom! We ran over something. Hank pulled over and I jumped out and ran back-it was a screwdriver. I picked it up and walked back to the Jeep, there was a huge hole in the side of the tire. Hank pulled off the road. It is around 1pm and 105 degrees. We pull out the manual to figure out where the jack is and how to operate. Just then, 2 city workers pull up and said it was their fault, they put their screwdriver on the back of the truck and it rolled off. They told up to drive up to the Shell station in town and the city would replace the tire at no charge. We put the spare on, drove up to Shell and sure enough, they put a new tire on! Amazing there are still honest people around-God really has blessed us. He often reminds us, pass it on! Be honest, and always do what is right!

Zion N.P. Angels Landing
This was probably the most Strenuous climbs I have done in years. There were long drop-offs and narrow trails. Climbing 1488', 5 miles, 4 hours. "Not for anyone fearful of heights." The switchback was very steep, I had to stop alot to catch my breath, but we made it. As you can tell, looking down off the cliffs...we were way up above Zion Canyon.

Zion N.P-Emerald Pools
Hank and I had quiet an adventure today. We caught the shuttle and got off at the Emerald Pool Trail. We decided to hike all 3 trails. The lower, the middle and the upper. There was hardly any water. When we came 3 years ago, the falls were flowing and the pools full.
We then decided then to drive through the tunnel and climb Observation Point. What a view!
It looks down over Zion Park. On the way home, we saw this beautiful white ELK. Atleast that is what we think it was...what do you think?

Kolob Terrace-Zion N.P. (side trip)
We are at a beautiful RV resort right outside Zion Park. The lady who runs the park suggested we drive up to Kolob Terrace at sunset. OH MY GOODNESS!! We got there a little late but it was gorgeous with temperatures in 80's. We are planning to do a little hiking tomorrow in Zion. Until then. We have no cell service!

Hoover Dam and Lake Mead
It was really too hot to do much of anything today beside watch Olympics, so we decided to drive over to the Dam. Again, a tremendous amount of Foreigners visiting the U.S.A. The Lake is over 100' down and the Dam was an amazing construction project. Compared to last year, they are moving right along putting in the new bridge across the water. You won't be able to cross the dam by car much longer.

Charleston Mtn.
I made us a picnic and we drove about 40 miles north of Las Vegas. We found a ski mountain, fresh air and 66 degree weather. It was so nice and cool! We had the windows open. We enjoyed a nice hike until both of us had a hard time breathing at 9000' up. Of course, now Hank is getting older, I have to watch out for him too.
Great time...good birthday.

Happy Birthday to Hank...
Happy Birthday Hank, he is finally old enough to get into things on his own, 55+
He woke up to a phone call from Davy, an email from Momma Ann and homemade blueberry muffins with a homemade candle (by me) made at Girl Scout with my girls, Ansley and Rebecca. We plan on going to the Charleston Point Mtn. today!
Have a great Birthday Hank!!

Vegas Strip
Hank and I have been taking it kinda slow. With temperatures over 106, we aren't moving to fast anyway. We walk early in the morning (before 7am) and then is almost 90, then we go where we can stay inside-like Malls, or Casino's. Late afternoon we go swimming when the pool is in the shade. In the evenings, we walk down on the strip and watch the people. Donna do you remember the dancing waters at the Bellagio?

Las Vegas, Nevada
We arrived at Las Vegas and will be here a couple of weeks! This is Hank's favorite place to visit and feels right at home. This is our 3rd time at the Oasis! Here is website if you want to view. http://www.oasislasvegasrvresort.com/
Anyway, I know Vegas would be boring for you all to read, so I probably won't post everyday while we are here. It's just gambling, shows, casino's, shopping, walking, people watching, swimming...just your everyday boring stuff!!!

Death Valley, Calfornia
Hank and I got up really early to try and beat the extreme heat! We arrived at Death Valley around 8:30 by 9:30 it was over 106 degree at -192' elevation. We enjoyed the view from above with a slight wind. We saw NO moving rocks, Rebecca. We ended our adventure at Scotty's Castle. A beautiful home built in Death Valley (never finished). What idiots to build here!! Built in 1920's, the furniture still intact(from around the world)and we were treated to the sounds of a 1,121 pipe organ!

Pahrump, Nevada
We arrived in Pahrump yesterday with over 100 degrees. First thing we did was get our bathing suits on and head to the pool. This is a gorgeous Resort, turned KOA. There is a couple of 5th wheels here and us! We enjoyed the beautiful pool and no people. It has a chef that will cook your meals and bring to RV. A fantastic exercise room and bowling alley. We have a gazebo behind our RV that Hank and I enjoyed using last night. Great place!! We won $40. at the nugget and had a nice dinner.

Yosemite N.P.
Today was a very long day! We drove through Yosemite viewing the beautiful cliffs climbing up over 9,000'. The lakes were gorgeous and the temperature was 74.
The El Capitan stood high above the Yosemite Village. The trees towered over us throughout the Park. There was too much to see and could have taken weeks to see it all. The granite mountains reminded me of Stone Mountain. Heading south tomorrow.

Mammoth Lakes, California
Arrived safely, we are going to investigate the small town. Tommorrow, we will head over to Yosemite. We saw new fires just a few miles away, it is very dry here.(I hope they stay just where they are!)
Just up the road was Inyo National Forest..we drove up there and found Devils Postpile N.M.! From there we rode a bus up the mountain. Devils Postpile, basalt lava erupted from volcanic vent and cooled some 20,000 years ago. Hank and I hiked about 4 miles and found the beautiful Rainbow Falls.
We are exhausted now and are going to do nothing the rest of the evening.
