My first bowl

After 2 days of class, I completed my first bowl. Maybe next time I will get a little more detailed. I had to learn how to use the lathe and tools.

I had fun and now Hank will be taking the class this coming weekend.

Today I took a class on how to make a bowl. You are just seeing the beginning of the bowl. The tools I use are behind me, the red and yellow stand. I tried them all to see what they did. I had a really great time except I was getting a cold and not feeling great.

Tomorrow I will finish it up! I have about an inch more to take out in the center. Hank is taking the same class next week, that way we can do this together.

On Thursdays, I always work in the garden. It really feels weird to be in January with Tomatoes, lettuce, brussel sprouts, peppers, cabbage, broccoli, beets, radishes, kale, all the herbs, spinach, turnips...you name it.

Every year we attend a really big street party. It

takes about 2 hours to fill all the bags with sand, and candle, line the whole street and connecting street, then light them. But we have a great time!!

Sometimes the Park Models just aren't big enough to have inside so, we sit out on the street. Everyone had a wonderful time. We even saw a road runner with its tail sticking up behind the outside light. Big entertainment for us!

Amazing how much food with had!! Smoked ham, deep fried Turkey, oven roasted turkey, (Kathy's sweet potatoes with pecans), salad, desserts galore, dressings, stuffings, mashed potatoes, green beans ...the list goes on and on.

It is funny how the guys all stood around near the food, waiting to hear "time to eat".

Grand Canyon

Flagstaff is just beautiful. The leaves are changing color and the leaves are falling on the ground. The days are beautiful, but the evening is cold.

Today we went to the Grand Canyon and had a wonderful trip. Walking the rim was beautiful. Then we ended the evening with watching the I-max movie about the Canyon.

We had a wonderful trip. Tomorrow we head for Las Vegas.

What a different way to see Sedona! The day started off cool, but warmed up rapidly. We had a great guide-Cher. She gave us much freedom to hang back, take pictures etc... There were only 3 couples. We had over 3 hours riding through the dusty desert. We were like a bunch of teenagers, doing wheelies.

There was one time we saw a snake and were taught to put it in the middle of your wheels so it won't strike your legs. Hank did just that. Debbie and Doug, who were behind us never even saw the snake,lol. Today we are going to the Grand Canyons.

Debbie and Doug arrived for their first and probably only motorcycle race in Phoenix at the Firebird track. As always, we have had a great time so far. Yesterday we went to the gun range to shoot an AR-15, 12 gauge, pistols, 22's and some heavy duty stuff. It was really exciting! We had a great time.

When we arrived, we decided to climb Hot Springs Mountain Tower. The view of the whole town was very neat. Plus it had a nice history of what went on in this town. It had a lot of gangsters that eventually shut down most of the business near bath row with their illegal gambling.

Hank and I had an interesting morning. Outside our coach, we noticed the water tower was leaking a lot of water. They called in a crew to repair. It was fun watching them hang up side down to patch the leak.

Our second entertainment (drama) for the day, Buddy and I were watching the guys sitting on the picnic table and all of sudden bees came out from under the table and attacked Buddy...I undid the leash and ran and called Buddy inside. He was stung about 6 times (at least) and the bees were stuck to his fur alive also flying in the coach. Hitting them with fly swatter and pulling them off him. I gave him immediately Benadryl. Eppy pen on hand. Poor Guy! By 5pm he seemed better and this morning, he is fine.

Today Hank and I went and shot sporting clays today. Hank did great, Lillie not so hot! We had a great time and probably will do it again tomorrow. I'm glad we brought our guns with us this time.

We are staying at Harrah's Mid South RV park until Tuesday at $14. a day, what a deal!

Cathedral Caverns State Park

Today Hank and I headed up the road to check out the caverns. 126' wide, 25' high entrance make a really great impression. There was about a mile long trail in the cave and took about 2 hrs. A nice 60 degrees was just what we needed instead of the 100 degrees outside. We had a really wonderful day.

We passed many oil rigs and gas rigs in the Gulf. They are all over the place. At the end of both Gulf Shores and Dauphin, there are Fort from the Civil War. This is Fort Morgan.

When we arrived, Hank and I immediately decided to go walk the beach. We saw no oil...or any problems that would be related to oil rig explosion. Only thing, people, people everywhere. Legacy Museum-Troop County Archives, Lagrange, Ga.

Yesterday, Hank and I finally got to stop by the Legacy Museum in Lagrange, Georgia. Hank's great-grandfather was very famous in this little town and the Civil War. He was a photographer during the war. Right before we sold the house, we found in the attic a real treasure. It was a homemade box with ledgers, journals, pictures, diaries, and medals of his great-grandfather Julius Lindsay Schaub. We took this items to donate to the museum. They were so excited. The medal, in the original box was worth a fortune, he said. They didn't have one in the museum like it. Anyway, he said it would be on display very soon to stop by again. Schaub pictures are all over town he said from the early 1800's. How cool is that?

Days like today always remind me, God is in control and He is awesome.

Hank and I decided to stay in Cumming, Ga. for awhile and last night my Aunt Sarah had hospice called in and died peacefully. I was able to say goodbye along with my 2 other sisters. Thank you Lord for reminding me to be quiet and listen. I had itchy feet to get our RV moving and he kept telling me to stay. God Bless!

She was my last Aunt, my mom's younger sister. I always thought, Mom would go first.

Holocaust Memorial Museum & Natural History Museum

Hank and Nolan went to the Holocaust Museum, both were moved by the history there. They both said they could have stayed for hours. They were there for 3hrs.

After that, they had lunch and walked to the Natural History Museum, but weren't to impressed with that!

Touring the State Capital and more.....

We rode the Metro down to Union Square and met up with Brian and Katherine. Hank had arranged a tour of the State Capital. Standing in the Rotunda where Presidents had laid in state, was an awesome experience for Nolan. We walked over to the Library of Congress and saw book from Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and more. What History!

Then Hank and Nolan went to the SPY Museum, while Katherine and I toured the National Portrait Galley to mostly see the Presidents Portraits. Cool. Then we took a very long hike to a very nice Mexican restaurant for dinner. Exhausted, we catch the metro home to return another day!

Sunday in Washington

Today we went on a hike along the Potomac River, then Hank and Nolan caught a ferry and rode over to Virginia and back again to Maryland. We enjoyed a nice picnic, then went blueberry picking.

Nolan, Hank and Dean had a blast with go-carts. Then they went to Air & Space museum. The had fun looking at all the planes, including the Enola Gay. While they were there, an Air France A-380 air bus flew into the airport. That was awesome.

Later in the evening, we all ate a terrific dinner at Katherine's house, then played Skip-Bo. Nolan loves this game.

I wonder what the going rate is these days for lost teeth?? I guess the tooth fairy will be visiting us tonight. We lost a tooth at breakfast.

Today we went to Church early at the First Baptist Church of Cumming. Ansley had a great time. Then she and I went to see Kung Fu Panda, followed by a nap (lol). Then we played some afternoon games and a nice evening stroll along the lake banks.

Ansley, Hank and me went over to John and Elana's house for dinner. It was fantastic, btw. Charlie and Ansley played checkers and chess. The rest of us played with Ralph and watched the drag races, great evening.

Tonight we had dinner with Rebecca, Jim, Ansley and Gabe. Great BBQ pork btw...after dinner we played a few card games, then went outside to play a few games out there including Grammie jumping on the trampoline.

Last Day Fishing in Hilton Head

I think my brother created a monster! Hank is hooked on fishing and now wants to head back east to Florida, SC., or N. C. oh my goodness for the winter.

We will take this one step at a time, maybe rent and try it out first.

Sunday on My Time II

Hank, David and I went fishing for about 4 hours. Boy, did we have some fun. Between sharks, sting rays, trout and the BIG ONE that got away, we had a great time.

Oh yea....Hank even got to pet the Dolphins.

My Time Fishing trip

David's first cast caught a bucket of bait, then we were off to do some fishing. Lillie was the first to pull in a big shark, it was so much fun.

Hank and I were the rookies, so I had to stomp on the chum to hang along side the boat to bring in the BIG fish. Second was Hank to catch a large sting ray...so far we were doing great, but no eatable fish. lol.

Hank and I both were at the helm. We had a great day. So much fun with the family.
